DIN EN ISO 9001 is a recognised standard across the world, which defines the requirements in terms of effective quality management within companies.

Currently, an updated version of DIN EN ISO 9001 from 2015 is being utilised. The most important changes compared to the previous version from 2008 are as follows:

* Changes to the order of the respective paragraphs – adjustment in order to achieve a uniform structure in terms of all management system standards.
* Additions to the paragraph on “Organisational context” as a standard requirement.
* A risk-based approach has been included.
* The process-orientated approach has been extended upon.
* More emphasis has been placed on the responsibilities of top management. It is no longer necessary to appoint a “top management contact”.
* Stipulations in terms of the planning and execution of changes to QM systems have been included.
* Stipulations in regards to activities following the delivery of products or services have been added.
* Knowledge held within the organisation has been included as a resource.
